Parkpoint Santa Rosa

The artists exhibiting at Parkpoint Health Clubs are members of the club or our very own staff. The Buchanan family (Club owners) are delighted to showcase the art of their members and staff, and feel blessed to have their clubs enjoy such beautiful work. They are grateful to have so many talented artists in all three clubs. It has been a pleasure to share their appreciation of art with all the members and Parkpoint community.

CIMON SELHORST

I have been making art throughout my adult life in various media, but it wasn’t until the COVID lockdown that I had the time to focus on acrylic painting. Taking painting classes at SRJC during that time put me in the practice of making a painting every week. Some of the pieces displayed are from that time. I was also working with a teacher doing process art and a few years ago that moved more towards abstract art when I went to see Susan Proehl’s work at an open studio. I felt an emotional response to her work and decided to focus on abstraction. I love mixing colors and allowing myself to see what arises as I paint. I also like playing with new tools and different materials to see how I can to add them to my work. When I am painting, I am thinking about the elements of design, but I also like to work loosely and see what arises. I allow my intuition to guide my painting. I find joy in creating something that evokes an emotional response and feels balanced.

Some of my paintings are inspired by what is in my garden. There are a few paintings from time spent in the Mojave dessert and in Santa Fe New Mexico. Most are a reflection of what is arising for me in the moment.

There is so much to learn and explore in art and I am continually playing with new techniques and approaches. Sharing my work is my way of embracing my style and its development.
