The Parkpoint Clubs are privately owned by the Buchanan family and were started in 1983 by Bill and Lindy Buchanan. As long-time Santa Rosa residents, the Buchanan family have made it a focus to give back to the local community. They are generous in their support of the Sonoma County community and make contributions to local causes on a regular basis. Through the clubs and their employees and members, they support causes ranging from food and clothing drives to hosting events that raise funds for charities. Every fall, they host a fundraising competition in support of local agencies in need and then personally match all funds raised by member participation. The Buchanan’s are inspiring examples of how individuals and businesses can make a difference and contribute to the vitality of their community.
SUPPORTING EDUCATION
Parkpoint is very excited to partner with Sonoma Valley Education Foundation in 2019! Partnering with the Education Foundation supports innovative programs from preschool to college and career ready. We look forward to promoting the benefits of wellness and fitness throughout our schools and community. Great schools are a hallmark of a great community, and we are proud to support the foundation so that we can continue to invest in student health and success in Sonoma County.
SUPPORTING YOUTH
Parkpoint is honored to partner with these local youth groups to support the development of healthy lifestyles:
- Every year, Parkpoint provides 36 hours of fitness mentoring to Healdsburg High School students to support their nationally-recognized, award-winning academic internship program for Juniors
- Youth Connections
- The REACH program of The Boys and Girls Club
- Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance
- Sonoma Valley High School Basketball Team
SUPPORTING THOSE IN NEED
Through annual fundraising programs such as Fit ‘n’ FUNdraiser, Parkpoint members work out to support local charities. Members and staff earn $1 for each day they work out in the month of November. Parkpoint then personally matches the total amount raised and then donates all proceeds to local charities such as:
- Redwood Empire Food Bank
- Healdsburg Food Pantry
- Sonoma Humane Society
- The Living Room
- Canine Companions for Independence
SUPPORTING OUR VETERANS
Parkpoint Santa Rosa’s annual Mel Clarke Tournament raises funds for The Military Racquetball Federation (MRF). The MRF is dedicated to promoting racquetball programs and events for service members here and abroad including support of events for our troops in war zones. Additionally, the MRF is committed to assisting the Wounded Warriors Project with their rehabilitation using a new MRF program called Racquetball Rehabilitation Clinics (RRC). This program’s focus is the use of racquetball as rehabilitation for both the physical and mental challenges suffered from combat.
PARKPOINT EMPLOYEES GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
We are very proud of our staff for generously volunteering their time and muscle, working hard to assist with fire recovery efforts at Annadel State Park. Staff who participated voluntarily spent their Sunday doing things like digging ditches, hauling mud and rocks, and dumping gravel to help with trail restoration. Parkpoint also donated $50 per employee that volunteered to the local parks fire recovery fund. We are blessed with so many beautiful parks in Sonoma County and have many members and staff who are trail runners or riders, so it felt good to help give back to the community in this way.
As an additional way to contribute to the community, we also support a variety of schools and athletic groups through Silent Auction donations.
