RITA ALONSO

Rita Alonso has been a Parkpoint member since 2005. Over the years, the club has been a place where she has stayed active, recovered from injuries, and remained connected to a community she values. She originally joined Parkpoint as a racquetball player and also spent time playing walleyball on the racquetball courts. For many years, soccer was her main focus. Rita played indoor and outdoor soccer for about 15 years, in both women’s and co-ed leagues, until she tore her ACL and required surgery.

After completing rehab, Rita transitioned into cycling. She participated in the Gran Fondo, riding the 35-mile course. She also completed a 65-mile ride during an ALS fundraiser in Monterey. Cycling became a way for her to stay active while respecting what her body needed post-injury.

Rita is also the founder and ambassador of the M-Powered Women’s Health Group. She helps keep members connected, supports communication within the group, and assists with organizing and facilitating the monthly educational lectures. She is reliable in her role, and demonstrates genuine care for the people involved. We are grateful for the work she does in support of women’s health.

Outside the club, Rita loves to travel. She has visited Lima and Machu Picchu in Peru, traveled through Europe multiple times including Barcelona three times, London, and Portugal, and has taken numerous cruises throughout the Caribbean and Mediterranean. One of her more memorable trips was a cruise from Barcelona to Italy aboard what was, at the time, the largest cruise ship in the world, complete with an indoor ice rink and space for more than 6,000 passengers. Rita is a warm, familiar presence and a valued member of our Parkpoint community.
